Residents are being invited to give their views on plans for a new Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) to help prevent anti-social behaviour.

Gloucester City Council is proposing to introduce the PSPO on Mercers Entry on Westgate Street, following reports of anti-social and nuisance behaviour.

The alleyway next to the Coventry Building Society, leads to Cross Keys Lane and the Longsmith Street car park.

It’s intended that the alleyway would be gated on both ends to restrict access.

Pedestrians will be able to use alternative routes on Bull Lane and Southgate Street.

PSPOs may be used restrict anti-social behaviour in a public space and can be in place for up to three years.

Breaching a PSPO is a criminal offence that can lead to a Fixed Penalty Notice or prosecution.

A spokesperson for Gloucester City Council, said: “It’s unfortunate that we have to introduce these kinds of measures to tackle anti-social behaviour. However, we’ve found that they can be very effective and we want the city centre to be a safe and welcoming place for all. I would encourage anyone who has a view on the proposals should take a few minutes to fill out the survey.”

The consultation will run until March 6. To take part visit Have Your Say Today - Proposed PSPO-Mercers Entry, Westgate Street - Your Gloucester
