Gloucester appoints new leader and cabinet to take city forward

Councillor Jeremy Hilton will lead Gloucester City Council, it was confirmed at yesterday’s council meeting, and will be supported by a new cabinet. 

Following the recent local elections Councillor Hilton who takes on the cabinet portfolio for Regeneration, will lead a minority administration, the Liberal Democrats being the largest party following the elections.

At yesterday’s meeting Councillor Hilton confirmed the councillors who would make up his cabinet and their areas of responsibility:

  • Cllr Declan Wilson – Deputy leader and Cabinet member for Resources
  • Cllr Sebastian Field – Cabinet member for Environment and Climate Change
  • Cllr Luke Shervey – Cabinet Member for Housing
  • Cllr Sarah Sawyer – Cabinet Member for Planning
  • Cllr Rebecca Trimnell – Cabinet member for Community Engagement
  • Cllr Caroline Courtney – Cabinet member for Culture and Leisure
  • Cllr Ashley Bowkett - Cabinet Support for Gloucestershire Airport, Commercial Income and other special projects.

The incoming Mayor was named as Cllr Lorraine Campbell and incoming Sheriff and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Pam Tracey. This will be the third time that Cllr Tracey has undertaken this prestigious civic role.

Councillor Hilton who represents Kingsholm and Wotton was first elected to represent Kingsholm in 1982.

Gloucester is a fantastic city with immense potential, and I’m determined that this council will make the most of those opportunities, while making sure the benefits are felt throughout our communities. I’m looking forward to working in collaboration with my fellow councillors across all parties and with my talented and dedicated cabinet who are equally committed to serving our residents. We are excited to get on with the job and will be setting out our vision to take the city forward by putting the heart back into Gloucester.”
