Bright Nights brings fun and games to Gloucester

Being held at the Redwell Centre in Matson, it will see visitors of all ages playing giant illuminated versions of family favourites like Connect Four and Snake and take part in glow in the dark football games and mini-golf. 

The light installations are the creations of French artistic collective, Groupe LAPS, which brings together artists, designers, videographers and sound designers, who’ve taken their unique illuminations all over the world. 

The Bureau of Silly Ideas, a not-for-profit conceptual art organisation will also be bringing their giant illuminated marble run aimed at encouraging people to think while having fun.

Light Games runs from 6-9pm on 17-18 February and is being organised by Gloucester City Council, in collaboration with Strike A Light, GL4, festival.org and Global Streets. Please note tickets from 6-7pm have now sold out.

It will invite visitors to challenge their friends and family to interactive games – without a screen in sight, and all completely free.

There will also be hot drinks served and fire pits to make it a cosy place to spend a cold February night.

Councillor Andy Lewis, cabinet member for Culture and Leisure at Gloucester City Council said: "Bright Nights has become a real fixture on our events calendar and has brought some exciting and most importantly fun events to our city. Light Games will be no exception and I hope that as many people as possible will come along and have some fun."

Emma-Jane Benning, Co-Artistic Director of Strike A Light, said “It’s always great to have exciting events like this happening in Gloucester. We hope it will give people something to look forward to on a chilly half-term night – and show off our city in a new light, too.”
