Council pays tribute after death of Cllr Colin Organ

Colin was first elected to the city council in 2010 as member for Tuffley, who he went on to represent for 12 years.

He went on to serve as Mayor of Gloucester from 2019 to 2020. Colin was a passionate advocate for Robinswood Hill and was fundamental in securing the funding for the visitors’ centre.

He was also the driving force behind the establishment of the Gloucester Goes Retro festival which has become a free event enjoyed by thousands every August for all ages.

Cllr Richard Cook, Leader of Gloucester City Council, said: “We are saddened to hear of the passing of Colin Organ. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and loved ones at this difficult time. Colin was dedicated, loyal, hard working and we will be forever grateful for his efforts both as Mayor of Gloucester and as a city councillor for Tuffley.”

Jon McGinty, Chief Executive of Gloucester City Council, said: “Colin was such a gentleman, always kind, and welcoming me and others with a friendly smile and a firm handshake. He was passionate and knowledgeable about the City of Gloucester, and I learnt so much from him.

“I am pleased he got to see the opening of the new visitor centre at Robinswood Hill, which was always one of his greatest passions, but sad that he will not be there at this year’s Gloucester Goes Retro Festival. I will also miss him very much indeed.”
