Overview of Gloucester City Council

We are a dynamic local authority providing essential services to the people of Gloucester.

Our Council Plan

Gloucester City Council has 39 Councillors representing 18 wards (with one, two or three Councillors representing each ward). In May 2024, Gloucester City Council returned a minority-led Liberal Democrat Council. Following this election result, work is now underway to create a new Council Plan to set out the strategic direction of the Council for the next four years.

The current Council Plan runs to the end of 2024 and sets out Gloucester City Council’s vision for our Council, our partners and our residents to build a greener, fairer, better Gloucester.

The priorities in the current plan are:

  • Building greener, healthier, and more inclusive communities
  • Building a sustainable city of diverse culture and opportunity
  • Building a socially responsible and empowering council

The plan is driven by a strong sense of environmental responsibility and a desire to tackle inequality, and places these two overarching themes at the heart of every objective.
