Fly-Tipping on Your Land
If you find waste dumped illegally on your land or water for example in a stream, pond or ditch you must:
- arrange to remove the fly-tipped waste safely
- pay for the removal and disposal
You can still report the incident to us for investigation if you witnessed the crime or have evidence of who did it, but we are under no obligation to remove the waste.
You must employ a registered waste contractor to remove the waste.
Check the Environmental agency's register of waste carriers, brokers and dealers to see if the contractor is a registered waste carrier.
How to make a report
Important - You can only report a fly-tip on private land to us if you witnessed the crime or have evidence of who did it, but we are under no obligation to remove the waste.
What happens after you report someone?
We'll look at the information you give to see if the case is appropriate for investigation by our environmental crime team under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005.
If the waste is on private land, it is the responsibility of the landowner to remove it.
