Care Leavers

You may be eligible if you're under 25 and paying Council Tax or living with someone who does.

Do I qualify?

To qualify you must be:

  • under 25 years old and a care leaver
  • named on the Council Tax bill
  • a Gloucestershire County Council Former Relevant Child, confirmed by Gloucestershire’s 11-25 Permanency Service

A care leaver will no longer qualify for a discount from the date of their 22nd birthday, or if the council policy is revised.

 

How much will I save?

If you’re the only person paying the Council Tax bill, you will not have to pay any Council Tax.

If you live with someone else, the Council Tax bill will be reduced to 50%.

How do I apply?

To facilitate this process, Gloucestershire County Council’s 11-25 Permanency Service will provide information to confirm the name, address, and date of birth of care leavers living in the Gloucester area who will qualify for the discount.
 
Therefore, if you are aged between 18 and 25, please contact your Personal Adviser, who will be able to apply for the discount on your behalf by confirming to Gloucester City Council your status as a care leaver.
