Discretionary Rate Relief

The council can reduce all or part of a rates bill where the property is occupied by certain bodies not established or conducted for profit

Will I qualify for relief?

Relief may be awarded where one of the following applies:

The property is occupied for the purposes of the institution or organisation whose main objectives are either -

  • Charitable
  • Educational
  • Social welfare
  • Science
  • Literature
  • Fine arts

Or

  • The property is mainly used for the purposes of recreation and
  • Is occupied for the purposes of a club, society or other organisation

What will I get?

  • Relief of up to 100% of the business rates bill
  • Relief of up to 20% where charitable rate relief has been awarded

How do I apply?

Download and complete the form and send to us at BR@gloucester.gov.uk . You must include the Business Rate account reference number in your email to us and the word reference in the subject of your email. For example 'Reference [Your Business Rate number]'
